A video shot off the California coast gives a glimpse of unidentified flying objects hovering over a smoking ship.

The clip, posted below, has been uploaded by user LookNowTV in September. It has now gone viral after being picked up by several media outlets. The channel collects UFO footage from users, in this case from witness Taylor L.

The clip has been "recorded in California from the viewpoint of the beach. You can see a few UFOs flying over or behind this ship which appears to have a large amount of smoke coming from it," the uploader describes.

HuffPost UFO analyst Marc Dantonio describes that the flying objects could be the new F-35 Joint Strike Fighter jets, which have the ability to hover instead of flying in straight lines. They can be operated to imitate the flight of a helicopter.

"Remarkably, this does look like something I have seen! To me, it looks like these are jets with afterburners on, heading away from the camera," Dantonio details.

"This could be one of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter wings doing training over the ocean where the afterburner is allowed," he says.

He explains that the ship could have been caught on camera during an engine restoration procedure. "As the first one peels off to the lower right, the aspect ratio of its circular exhaust and afterburner shape changes with respect to the camera and gradually fades away.

"Similarly, the others -- except for one -- follow suit. So, to me, this looks exactly like a tactical training mission which happened to be seen over a ship that looks like its engines were being cycled up," he clarifies.

He is skeptical about the size of the flares in the video, and hints that they have been edited to appear larger.
