U.S. Cellular has recently announced the release of a new clamshell phone, the LG ‘Wine’, which comes with a glossy finish. The handset is not one of the most advanced devices available on the market today, yet it is able to offer a range of basic features to those who would not need more from their handset.

The new LG ‘Wine’ comes with a 2.2-inch QVGA internal display that can provide a 240 x 320 pixel resolution and 262,144 colors, complemented by a 1.3-inch external display. The handset also includes a 1.3-megapixel camera and a high-fidelity speakerphone and it is said to have been designed to “set the standards for ergonomics” as it features a large numeric keypad as well as four shortcut keys.

The handset features support for CDMA dual-band (800/1900 MHz) standard. This easy-to-use phone does not include EV-DO support, yet it does sport a GPS, Bluetooth connectivity and picture ID, which should appeal a little more to users. The LG ‘Wine’ should prove to be a device well suited for elder people, due to the fact that it allows for the size of the fonts to be adjusted.

LG's new ‘Wine’ measures 3.89 x 1.93 x 0.66 inches (99 x 49 x 17 mm) and weighs only 3.32 oz (94 g). It packs a battery that can provide up to 4 hours (240 mins) of talk time and up to 10 days (250 hours) of stand-by time.

The new LG ‘Wine’ clamshell phone is already available on the market at U.S. Cellular stores. It can be purchased in either Red or Silver, and its price is stated to be of only $30 upon signing a contract and after a mail-in rebate.
