iPhone 6 might fix this problem once and for all

There’s a topic on the Apple subreddit that caught our eye. It’s a problem we’ve been facing with our iPhones around these parts as well, and we have to say that we never though it was that widespread.

Thread starter Andyle604 asks, “Anyone else hitting the period (.) a lot instead of hitting the space bar while entering URLs?”

You’re not alone

Among the first people to respond said, “I thought it was just me. Every time I do a Google search it looks like word.word.word.”

A storm ensued, with redditors from all corners of the Internet confirming that it was an issue for them too. And it’s one of the most annoying things ever. Because the keyboard morphs whenever the applications demands it. When you’re in a browser like Safari or Opera, you get the “period” much closer to the space bar.

Moreover, the space bar shrinks by a few pixels. It may not seem much when you first look at it, but it’s a world of difference if you’re the type who hits keys right on their edges.

“Apparently it's been a problem with Safari since iOS 7,” writes another. “But I've been using Chrome so I never knew. But I switched back to Safari since Chrome doesn't have the native six plus screen resolution, and it's quite annoying.”

We’re guessing that some of you here have had a similar experience, but we’re dying to know for sure. So, tell us in the comments.

Here’s to the iPhone 6

iPhone 6 and especially iPhone 6 Plus promise to solve a lot of these problems, but not if the keyboard keeps morphing like that. The problem is not the size of the keyboard. It’s how you’ve gotten used to typing.

And according to one commenter in the topic, things aren’t much better with the latest and greatest iPhones.

“Same for me, ever since iOS 7. Just got the 6, and instead if hitting the . I'm now missing the spacebar entirely by overestimating how low it is!”

Well, we’re sure that it’s just a matter of accommodating to the new layout.

Get iOS 8

Another user adds, “Yep. Been an issue for years. When I heard there were new keyboards in ios8, I thought that meant they were finally fixing. Nope.”

Actually, you can get third-party keyboards in iOS 8. But so far, only a few are available. Here’s a list of choices if you’re interested. Don’t forget to make your voice heard in the comments.
