It might become a new world record

If you've ever wondered how many text messages one would be able to send in a month, here is a possible answer to that question: 217,000. At least this is the number of messages two men from central Pennsylvania managed to send in March in an attempt to set a new world record.

All sounds good so far for Nick Andes, 29, and Doug Klinger, 30, which had unlimited text messaging plans that were meant to help them in their attempt, yet they were shocked when they received a $26,000 bill for said messages. “It came in a box that cost $27.55 to send to me,” Nick Andes said on Tuesday.

All was well in the end, it seems, as T-Mobile, the wireless operator they were subscribers to, honored their unlimited messaging plans and credited the account. Even though the sent messages weren't full texts, some of them being either short phrases or one word, the amount is nevertheless overwhelming and the record might become official after all.

To be more precise, sending 217,000 messages in a month means sending about 7000 messages a day, or 291 an hour. Going further, that translates into 4 text messages sent every minute, and that for an entire month. According to the two, Andes sent around 140,000 of the messages, while Klinger sent more than 70,000, which allowed them to reach the aforementioned figure.

For the time being, it seems that no one from Guinness World Records has stated anything about the possible certification of the record. Before them, the person known to have sent a similarly large number of messages in a month's time was Deepak Sharma from India, who topped 182,000 texts back in 2005. Hopefully, the new number will become a record and the Guiness World Records will soon confirm it. We're also eager to find out how the two actually managed to do it.
