On Tuesday, Nobel winning scientist Tim Hunt attended a conference in South Korea and told people there that it's not such a good idea for women and men researchers to work together on account that romance could strike at any moment.
Further, the University College London researcher argued that, being as sensitive as they are, women often prove a nuisance to work with, seeing how they have a tendency to burst into tears without warning and for no good reason.
“Let me tell you about my trouble with girls. Three things happen when they are in the lab: you fall in love with them, they fall in love with you, and when you criticize them, they cry,” his exact words were.
Following these comments, which many perceived as sexist, the 72-year-old researcher was forced to resign from his position as honorary professor at the University College London.
Despite his promptitude in handing in his resignation, he was not spared mockery. Au contraire, Twitter is now awash with photos of women scientists posing in hazmat suits or at archaeological sites looking all glamorous, gorgeous and distracting.
Well, actually, they look just like any other scientist on the job, this being their whole point when taking these photos: to mock Tim Hunt's observations that women in the lab are a distraction to men desperately trying to get some work done.
