14 DAY TRIAL // The official Twitter application for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, has received a major update which includes the ability to upload photos to pic.twitter.com. Read on to learn about the rest of the new features and enhancements.
“Follow your interests: instant updates from your friends, industry experts, favorite celebrities, and what’s happening around the world,” reads the iTunes App Store description of Twitter. “Get short bursts of timely information on the official Twitter app for iPhone.”
The developers continue: “Real-time search reveals breaking news, while trending topics and maps show what’s happening now around the world. View trends, browse your interests and see suggested users in several categories, including fashion, entertainment and travel, or search to find out what people are saying about topics you care about, such as politics or big sporting events.”
Features include the ability to browse interests, Find & follow friends, Tweet, Retweet, mark as Favorite, or send Direct Messages, as well as to share photos, videos and web pages.
Twitter iOS also boasts real-time search, the ability to view maps, trends, and it allows users to start following others right from within the app.
iOS itself has a deep Twitter integration. iOS 5, scheduled to debut today, will continue to support the micro-blogging service natively.
As Apple prepares to roll out the new OS, the official Twitter app has reached version 3.5.0, which brings an enhanced sign up experience, the ability to upload photos to Twitter (pic.twitter.com), and the option to tap a location to show Tweets nearby (iPad only). There’a also an updated Direct Messages design on the iPad version.
Several bug fixes and minor enhancements have been included with the update as well.
The new Twitter app requires iOS 4.0 or later. It’s compatible with all iDevices that support the firmware, which means compatibility starts at iPhone 3G.
