On Tuesday, we reported that the official Twitter account of Fast & Furious actress Jordana Brewster was hacked by spammers. It turns out that she’s not the only high-profile individual targeted by spammers over the past days.

The Twitter accounts of American actor Zach Roerig, American television writer and producer Hart Hanson, British MP Jane Ellison, ESPN racing analyst Mike Massaro, and American football cornerback for the Arizona Cardinals Justin Bethel have also been hijacked by spammers, E Hacking News has learned.

In addition, hackers have targeted the accounts of NewsBreaker and Pentagram Design, a design studio founded in 1972.

Following the breach, each of them confirmed that their Twitter feeds were overtaken by scammers who tried to lure their followers to shady miracle diet websites.

Security expert Janne Ahlberg has been monitoring these attacks. He believes that the diet spammers compromise the Twitter accounts after sending their owners direct messages containing links to phishing websites.

Ahlberg says that a few test accounts he has set up have received phishing DMs from accounts that tweet diet spam. A perfect example of such a phishing site is “itwjtter.com,” which is currently still active, but flagged by browsers.
