Officials at the American space agency say that the two Radiation Belt Storm Probes (RBSP) will launch on Friday, August 24, from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS), in Florida.

The spacecraft were originally supposed to launch aboard their Atlas V delivery system today, August 23, but a last-minute error forced mission controllers to call for a 24-hour delay. The issue is now fixed.

Takeoff is currently scheduled to occur at 4:07 am EDT (0807 GMT). NASA's Weather Office predicts a high probability of favorable weather for when the launch window opens. The purpose of the RBSP spacecraft is to study the two Val Allen radiation belts surrounding the planet.

This mission will help scientists understand space weather in more detail, and to predict how it will change, in advance, Space reports.
