Few fans have forgotten the frenzy that took over the world in the first part of 2010, before the third installment in “The Twilight Saga,” called “Eclipse,” came out. Proving once more that twi-hards are not to be messed with, the trailer for “Eclipse” has just been named the top trailer of the year.

Based on Google results, the most watched movie trailer of 2010, was that for the vampire saga that has become the biggest movie franchise of our times, taking with it Summit Entertainment, the movie studio behind it, way up in the big league.

As Film Industry Network points out, even though “Eclipse” did not generate the hype that other film franchises did and didn’t even come out in the second part of the year, it was a favorite with Internet users.

“While the film didn’t have the enormous hype of Harry Potter, it was a favorite amongst internet users who search for trailers using Google,” the e-zine says.

“Eclipse” remained a favorite with fans even as critics trashed it before and after release. However, as compared to “New Moon,” “Eclipse” was better received critically, as we also noted on a previous occasion.

As for how it came to be determined that the “Eclipse” trailer ruled the net in 2010, FIN explains: “In recent years, YouTube has become a dominant marketing engine for movie trailers, which was acquired by Google and is now the first place where Studios and independent filmmakers go to promote their movies.”

Shortly after its release, the trailer went viral: the video embedded at the end of the article, for instance, has over 14 million views. And there are more like it on YouTube, meaning it’s not the only video with the trailer available.

The other trailers that made the cut and were favorite with moviegoers (online, at the very least) are as follows: “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1,” “Iron Man 2,” “A-Team,” “Alice in Wonderland,” “Avatar,” “Dear John,” “Despicable Me,” “The Expendables” and “Green Lantern.”
