Together with the boom of point and shoot digital cameras over the last few years, the demand for disposable batteries has increased proportionally.

But it's a well-known fact that these batteries can't handle the power requirements of such a device, especially when the display and flash are used.

Consumer who don't want to purchase a pair of rechargeable batteries have at their disposal Duracell's new batteries, based on the NiOx (Nickel Oxy Hydroxide) technology, which promises twice as much power as regular ones.

Available in AA and AAA sizes, PowerPix products seem to be the answer to the users' prayers (and curses) who are not willing or able to get the researchable solutions.

"Digital cameras are central to consumers' lives, and these sophisticated devices have high energy demands. Approximately three out of four consumers currently power their digital cameras with ordinary alkaline batteries, which can lead to frustrating results. Fueled by an advanced technology, PowerPix will deliver longer-lasting performance and a more satisfying experience, especially for moderate camera users," said Mark Bertolami, vice president of marketing, Duracell.

PowerPix will be available in February 2006 in four- and eight-cell packs in AA size and four-cell packs in AAA size. The suggested retail price for a four-cell pack is $5.99.
