TweetMeme has come through with its promise made last week and launched a serious feature upgrade to its website. Launched on August 28, the new version took the website down for a couple of times but the results were very satisfying.

“We are calling it version ‘V2’ as today’s release really is a complete revamp of the site that encompasses a total rewrite of our scoring system, filtering engine and a whole raft of user interface enhancements and tweaks,” said Nick Halstead, TweetMeme representative.

The new version brings lots of new usability and user interaction features that will make searching for popular tweets or re-tweeting stories as easy as pie. The main upgrade was made to the comment retweeting engine, previewed by company representatives a week earlier on the same day that rivals from ReTweet launched their service.

Comments and retweets are now shown using a “river” arrange and display technique with possibilities to reply to more than one user at a time. Also, a new bookmarklet will let users track-back and find any website on TweetMeme.

Analytics tools have been introduced for individual stories with statistics for “tweet analyzer” showing unique tweets for a particular story. A full analytics package will be available in the coming week, according to company officials.

An improved filtering engine (version 3) built in TweetMeme's native code called “Pickle Code” has been launched, allowing users to build complex filters with simple AJAX drag and drop operations. A snapshot provided by TweetMeme will show exactly how complex this operation could get (see attached photo).

Since TweetMeme is practically driven by its user, the ranking system has been upgraded to introduce new features like individual user scoring, spam reporting, user abuse reporting and a “This Sucks!” button to put it more simple.

For developers, TweetMeme has been actively working with the JS-Kit development team to import and integrate tweets inside the Echo Stream technology used on many blogs today.
