The market for headsets and headphones is among the most successful right now, in terms of sales volumes, and Turtle Beach appears to have benefited greatly from this.

Turtle Beach specializes in audio products for the gaming industry, meaning that it deals in high-end headphones and headsets, some of which come in special themes.

The company has now announced that, during 2011, its business went through particularly favorable times.

In fact, the hardware maker accounted for about half of the whole gaming headset/headphone market and also led the segment of third party console video gaming accessories.

“Turtle Beach created the console gaming headset category and we have been the leader ever since releasing our first XBOX headset more than five years ago. We are number one because our products are based on the principle that quality audio is a critical part of the video game experience and the market has responded,” said Bob Picunko, chief marketing officer at Turtle Beach.

“The latest NPD data has shown the strongest growth in the history of Turtle Beach and the category itself. The creation of a dedicated Gaming Headset category and our significant market share is a testament to the quality of our product and the desire of players to have a more immersive audio experience.”

According to the press release, Turtle Beach offered 12 of the best 25 gaming headsets in 2011. Thus, it ended up with a 50% share of the market for the whole year, and 58% for the month of December.

Some examples are the Call of Duty MW3 Limited Edition Headsets and Ear Force PX3 and Z6A Wireless gaming headsets.

As for 2012, the company already did its best to have a good start, having unveiled a number of PC and Console headphones, among other things. More computer and PS3/XBOX/etc. models should show up over time.
