All you need is willingness and a random 3D printer

Once again, 3D printing technology shows just how useful and convenient it can be. To the point where you can be a super fan while totally skimp off buying pricey replicas of film props.

Indeed, you could even argue that making your own versions of the replicas shows even more dedication, though it's up to you to get people to buy that story.

Anyway, if you happen to own an iPhone, you may soon have the option of turning it into that nifty, beaten-up little walkman that Peter Quill (also known as Star-Lord) owns in "Guardians of the Galaxy."

The designer who created the files for the object is called John R. Hazzard and he definitely got the portable cassette player look right.

He took 3 months to design the thing, since he only did it in his spare time. He had to build an iPhone placeholder first, then design the case in Autodesk Maya 2015.

Once he was ready, he sent the files to Shapeways to be 3D printed, paying forty bucks or so, or €33, according to our never-at-all-beloved exchange rates.

He had some minor issues with the first prototype, since the door's snap hinge didn't work flawlessly, but eventually he got it right.

He still wants to work on it some more, but when he's done he might put it up for sale, or at least publish the CAD plans.
