Adding touch support to everything in sight is the new groove now that touch panels are becoming standard issue on laptops, tablets, TVs, monitors, and essentially every other type of display under the sun.

Researchers from Fujitsu have come up with an interesting little system that, by combining a webcam, a bunch of sensors and a tabletop projector, can give “touch” support to normal book pages.

Finger movements and even motion in three dimensions can be recognized and interpreted.

Digitizing text and pictures is one thing that can be done with this (just by tapping or dragging selection boxes), but animations and videos can be played on the page too. That's what the projector is for.

Obviously, the scientists are trying to replicate the idea of enchanted books, and succeeding too.
