They have better defenses now!

In case you haven't read about this before, let me tell you that Monster is one of the sites with the worst security leaks ever! There was an important security issue last week, and because of the phishing done on this web page and its consequences, I named it the "Week of the Trojan". So, to say it briefly here's what happened: hackers stole sensitive information about the people that were registered on Monster. Then they used this data to make e-mails look genuine, then they spammed the crap out of everyone to try and scam users. So, basically, they phished, spammed and scammed. And all that happened because they found vulnerabilities in the site's defense.

Of course, that did not bode well with the site's image. They lost a lot of credibility because people that were trying to get a job got scammed, so instead of the site helping them get money, the site "helped" them lose some dough. In any case, after this was over, the data of 1.3 million (1.6 reported by other sites) has been stolen - this is a huge number. That's why they decided to butch up their security.

What I found out for The Inquirer's website is the fact that the company is improving its surveillance of how the site is used as well as limiting the way data can be accessed. Now, they've learned their lesson and are so cautious that they won't say more about their new security system, for fear that this might help hackers.

In any case, other similar sites should take heed and crank security up a notch. I think that Monster's was a pretty good example. When working with people's data you can never be too careful and you have to deploy the toughest defensive modules in order to keep info safe.
