Activision talks a bit about the Call of Duty series during its financial earnings call and mentions that Advanced Warfare performed quite well and that this year's iteration, coming from Treyarch, is going to be the best game yet in the first-person shooter franchise.

Call of Duty started life as an ambitious World War 2 first-person shooter series made by Infinity Ward and published by Activision. It has since become a behemoth franchise, with Activision bringing in two other major studios, Treyarch and Sledgehammer Games, to make new iterations, as well as smaller teams to help out with DLC and other such things.

Advanced Warfare performed very well, Activision emphasizes

Even so, the series hasn't exactly broken sales records like it used to in recent years but Activision isn't worried at all.

During its recent financial earnings call, via SeekingAlpha, Activision first points out that the series is still doing very well, as Advanced Warfare impressed many veteran fans and newcomers, leading it to become the number one game for the sixth consecutive year in North America.

The DLC is also performing very well, both in terms of season pass sales and standalone, thanks to the recently released Havoc add-on.

Last but not least, Activision also bragged about the popularity of Advanced Warfare on the new consoles, i.e. PS4 and Xbox One, as it's "attached at a franchise-high level" to the platforms, which matters quite a lot for the series.

Treyarch's title will delight fans this year

What's more important, however, is that Activision is very confident in this year's Call of Duty title, which arrives from Treyarch later this year and should be the best one yet.

"Our 2015 guidance on Call of Duty is nearly flat year over year, but we saw that’s a pretty conservative planning assumption. We have Treyarch developing the game, we’ll have a larger installed base in next-gen hardware to sell into, and we believe our Q4 new release is going to be one of our best games yet. So we think the future’s bright."

As of yet, however, there are no actual details about the new Call of Duty game, although rumors are talking about a World at War II possibility.
