...not in your home as you probably hoped but in shops if they sat there for more than 5 minutes.

SCEA President Jack Tretton claimed in an interview with EGM that he would pay $1200 for any PS3 found on store shelves that had been there longer than five minutes. So naturally, Gabe and Tycho at Penny Arcade took his words seriously and shook hands on the bet with Tretton. On a rather short trip to various major retail outlets, the boys had no problem finding no less than 10 PS3s sitting on shelves, gathering dust. So, Ms. Tretton, what do you have to say about your offer now? Is it still standing?

Normally, it should, Sony wouldn't want more bad publicity than they're already getting. Still, why did Tretton feel so confident about the PS3's success? Sure enough, he could have gotten lucky if a the rich father of ten children had with ten different wives had barged in to meet his offspring's demand but, concerning that was a long shot, even Bill Gates was more likely to come in and buy them for charity. So Tretton surely had something else in mind.

SCEA President may have thought of making a marketing move to impress the public: "if SCEA President JackTretton says he'll pay $1200 for every PS3 sitting on the shelf for more than 5 minutes, than the PS3 is a great machine!" Right, like that's going to happen! Still, you have to hand it to him, the man has steel guts. Or maybe his conscience is eating him alive that Sony isn't doing as bad as everyone is saying.

Tretton does owe Penny Arcade around $13,200, in case you were wondering that what you've just read was someone's poor idea of a joke.
