Transistor, the next action role-playing game from Supergiant Games, will stand out from the previous project of the indie studio, Bastion, according to creative director Greg Kasavin, who shared a few distinguishing characteristics.

Bastion appeared out of nowhere in 2011, amazing many gamers across the PC, Xbox One, or iOS platforms with a touching story, tight action role-playing game mechanics, and a unique dynamic narrator system that made the whole experience feel much better.

Now, developer Supergiant Games is working on its next big project, another action RPG called Transistor.

While it's set in a totally different universe, has a female protagonist, not to mention a revised combat system, many people are still thinking about it as a Bastion successor.

Supergiant's Greg Kasavin, however, emphasized that he and his team wanted to create something completely new, in an interview with GameInformer. This started with a fresh identity for the experience and extended to the new world in which players can lose themselves in, as well as an universe that had more than enough reasons to keep them around after they finished playing.

The tone and the "moment-to-moment play experience" of the new game will really make the game stand out as opposed to other titles, including Bastion.

"Tonally we're after something that took us a while to articulate and to capture in-game, between the music and the artwork and the use of voiceover and the pacing of everything, as well as with the nature of the story. I don't like to spell it out and want players to find it for themselves," he said.

"From a gameplay standpoint, from the start we really wanted to make something that felt relatively deliberate and measured, something that felt thoughtful, and could create a lot of anticipation and drama -- all in the context of an easy-to-pick-up-and-play action RPG."

What's more, while Supergiant certainly classified Transistor as an action role-playing game, just like Bastion, the developer believes that there's ample room in the genre with untapped potential in terms of gameplay or narrative.

While Bastion approached the genre with things like a dynamic narrator and a touching story, Transistor will use a different approach and the studio hopes that it will make for "something interesting and memorable."

Unfortunately, Transistor still doesn’t have a concrete release date, as Supergiant has refrained from giving an exact time frame for the game's debut. We do know, however, that it will appear at least at first on PC and PS4.
