Transistor, the upcoming action brawler from independent developer Supergiant Games, has a sort of New Game+ mode, in the form of the Recursion one, which allows players to once again go through the game's missions while retaining their progression data and abilities.

Transistor is the next big project from indie studio Supergiant Games, which already impressed quite a lot of fans with the stunning Bastion experience many years ago across quite a lot of different platforms.

The new experience retains the brawler gameplay but adds a bigger emphasis on the weapon of protagonist Red, in the form of the Transistor, and how it's used to battle the Process, the enemy faction inside the game.

Players will be able to unlock different abilities for their Transistor and, after completing the story, they can take advantage of the Recursion mode, which offers a sort of New Game+ experience.

"We wanted to build rich, deep-feeling game systems for Transistor, such that it’s impossible to experience the full breadth of the gameplay on a single play-through. This helps us ensure that first play-through will be as packed with as much interesting stuff as possible. At the same time, it creates a lot of opportunity to extend the game in ways we think are exciting. Enter what we call Recursion mode," the studio said on the PS blog.

Recursion mode will be unlocked after you finish the story of Transistor and players can choose it in order to experience the plot once more while retaining their current progression, like level or the unlocked Transistor functions.

"This immediately opens up a lot of new gameplay as you’ll be discovering new function combinations all the way through your initial play-through of the game. You’ll also find some new surprises (that word again) in the content itself the second time around."

"Most notably, the composition of enemy forces you’ll encounter will be different — and it’ll be different just about every time you play. This means you can really sink your teeth into the core gameplay if, as we hope, you’ve taken a liking to it by the end of the game."

Quite a lot of other surprises are in store for players who get Transistor when it arrives on the PC and PS4 next week, on May 20.

Considering Supergiant wants to keep most of these surprises a secret, don't expect any more details to be shared until its debut in just four days.
