While most mobile computers come equipped with their very own card readers, desktops don't have such things by default, so Silicon Power figured it would make one that can handle the more compact variations of memory cards.

Memory cards are one of, if not the most widespread storage solution based on NAND Flash memory.

Depending on what format they use, cards can end up in smartphones and other handsets, as well as cameras, camcorders and other consumer electronics.

When it comes to transferring the data directly to a PC however, the need arises for a card reader that can handle the size of the card in question.

Silicon Power has now delivered a memory card reader that it specifically built so as to read microSD and microSDHC cards.

For those that need an update, these two formats are, as their names imply, the most compact ones, being those found most often in digital cameras and phones.

The new card reader measures 35.6 (L) x 16.6 (W) x 7.6 (H) mm, weighs under 3 grams and, as one would expect, uses the USB 2.0 connection to communicate with a host PC or Mac.

Normally, phones or digital cameras come with data cables meant to let them connect to such systems and either offload or upload photos, music files, etc.

This memory card reader has the advantage of being much more easy to slip into one's pocket and carry around at all times if need be.

Unfortunately, prices were not mentioned, the press release saying only that a 2-year warranty will be provided.

“Silicon Power Stylish USB reader has compact size, users can easily attach it to the purse, keychain or cell phone,” states the press release.

“The combo pack does not only read your mobile card, but also can be used as expandable USB flash drive. It brings the entertainment and enriches your daily life,” the announcement added.
