One thing about 2.5-inch solid-state drives is that they can work in any device that has a big enough compartment for them.

The new one that Transcend revealed is, thus, good for handheld appliances, notebooks, gaming systems, industrial PCs and, of course, ultrabooks.

It is called SD740 and, naturally, uses the SATA III interface (SATA 6.0 Gbps).

The maximum read speed is of 530 MB/s, while files can be written at 470 MB/s. 4K random read/write performance is of 283/267 MB per second.

TRIM, Native Command Queuing (NCQ) maintain performance over time and optimize order of execution for received read/write commands.

Then there's SATA DevSleep, a feature that “defines the lowest power state for SATA technology” and, thus, allows the PHY and other circuitry to be completely powered off during slumber states.

As the product page will show, the transcend SATA 6 Gbps SSD740 SSD line comes in 64 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB capacities.
