Hackers have been getting particularly dangerous lately, so Transcend decided that even the smallest storage devices should have high-level protection.

What the company did was create some new Copy Protection SD/microSD Memory Cards.

With capacities of 2 GB to 16/64 GB, they store data on a CDROM-style partition and prevent unauthorized copy, deletion and other sorts of modification.

Maximum defense is enabled by pre-loading the memory cards at the point of manufacture.

This ensures that there is no way to either copy or delete whatever files users request to have Transcend store on them.

This does mean that no new data can be added, but at least that makes sure no viruses or other malicious software ever infects the files already there.

Customers can decide what intellectual property they value most, like artistic works, exclusive ideas and other creations.

Once they have a list, they can request that Transcend write it all on one of the Copy Protection SD/microSD Memory Cards.

The same goes for materials from marketing campaigns, where certain content has to be kept sealed off and impossible to duplicate.

In the company's own words, the cards “guarantee protection of important media by storing audio and video files in a read-only partition, in a manner similar to a CD.”

People may say that it takes a lot of paranoia to think such extreme measures are necessary, but the fact remains that many defenses were breached and files compromised, from online game networks to government agencies.

Transcend can't do anything about main frames, but it can do something about portable storage, so it did.

Copy Protection SD cards can have 2 to 64 GB storage, but Copy Protection microSD ones can't go above 16 GB. All come with a limited lifetime warranty and are available only on request.
