Storage-, memory- and multimedia-product manufacturer Transcend Information has unveiled two additions to its extensive memory-product lineup. The newcomers are a couple of high-density DDR3 modules with capacities of 4GB an 8GB, respectively. Aimed at both high-end consumers and server applications, the new products offer increased data frequencies, a higher memory space and support for triple-channel configurations.

Transcend's 4GB DDR3-1333 VLP (Very Low Profile) RDIMM (Registered DIMM) is compact enough to fit into space-restricted cases, blade servers and even 1U height racks, being only 0.74 inches high. This module enables system administrators to maximize the memory bandwidth when used with the triple-channel architecture present in the latest Nehalem-based Xeon server platforms. In such scenarios, three modules lead to a memory bandwidth of up to 10.6GB/s.

The 8GB DDR3-1066 RDIMM is the company's highest-density DDR3 module and uses a “ robust ten-layer PCB that offers stable performance and durability.” The memory solution enables a bandwidth of up to 8.5GB/s and may expand the maximum capacity to 48GB (per processor). In addition, it also employs an aluminum heatsink with high thermal efficiency in order to keep the device cool under load. As such, the 8GB DDR3 allows system administrators to easily run cloud computing and virtualization applications.

Both the 4GB and the 8GB models are built with high-quality 256M x 8 DDR3 FBGA chips, which feature improved electrical and heat-dissipation characteristics. In addition, the low-profile 1333/1066 memory devices are fully compatible with the standards set by the Joint Electron Device Engineering Council (JEDEC).

The two products from Transcend, besides offering triple-channel support and enhanced capacity, are designed with an onboard thermal sensor and, in addition to the applications already mentioned, will also serve well those high-end users interested in an increased reliability. Both the 4GB VLP RDIMM and the 8GB RDIMM come with the company's lifetime warranty.

Unfortunately, the prices of the two modules have not been mentioned.
