Even with all the reports of declining HDD sales, there seems to be no shortage of new models, as proven by how Transcend just presented a pair of capacious, portable models from the StoreJet series.

Portable electronics, like smartphones and tablets, have begun to eat away at PC shipment shares.

Among other things, this caused a decline in shipments for all of the latter's types of components, one of them being the hard disk drive.

With SSDs and other NAND Flash chips getting increasingly widespread, HDDs, especially mini HDDs, don't sell as well as before.

Already the layout of the HDD market has changed, with Western Digital buying Hitachi and Samsung selling its HDD business to Seagate.

Transcend is one of the IT players that hasn't announced or let leak info about any plan to withdraw form the race (yet).

On the flip side, it did unveil a pair of portable solutions just a short while ago, both of them adding to the StoreJet series.

They go by the names of StoreJet 25H3P and StoreJet 25H2P and are different from one another through their choice of interface.

While the latter has the common USB 2.0 connection, the former boasts the far more speedy SuperSpeed USB 3.0 standard.

What's more, they both come with strong enclosures and the Transcend Elite data management software.

“Housed in a robust shockproof case, the newly released StoreJet 25H3P and StoreJet 25H2P drives offer extra capacity for more downloads and files and provide the highest level of protection against accidental drops,” says the company.

“Besides incorporating a brilliant purple anti-slip rubber enclosure, the new models include a reinforced hard casing that evenly distributes the force of an impact, and an internal hard drive suspension damper as a last line of defense.

The 1TB StoreJet 25H2P sells for $185, while the 1TB StoreJet 25H3P (USB 3.0 allows for 90 MB/s speeds) is priced at $205.
