We first laid our eyes on Tranquil PC’s MMC-12 ultra-thin media centre computer just the last week, and now the UK-based company has started shipping this 1.5-inch tall system to HTPC fans worldwide with prices starting at £649.00, which is right around the $1,000 US mark.
The system is constructed from metal and finished in a satin-textured matte black, its front panel showing only a power button, a badge with the company’s name on it and a slot loading optical drive.
The standard version of the MMC-12 comes equipped with a DVD, but users also have the option of going with a Blu-ray ODD is this fits their needs better.
Deep inside the ultra-thin A/V rack-friendly chassis, Tranquil PC has installed a dual-core Intel i3-2100T Sandy Bridge processor which is paired with 4GB of DDR3 memory configured in single-channel mode.
Users can however chose to populate the second DRAM slot found inside the chassis with another RAM module to reach a total of 8GB of system memory and enable dual-channel configuration.
The rest of the specs list includes a paltry 80GB mSATA hard drive, Windows 7 Home Premium, a pair of USB 2.0 and two USB 3.0 ports, a Gigabit Ethernet jack and an eSATA port.
The MMC-12 can be connected to an HDTV or a projector using the DVI and HDMI outputs found in the rear of the system where there’s also a mini optical SPDIF audio plug.
Power is provided thanks to an external power supply unit and the Tranquil PC ultra-thin system features an internal infrared sensor, while also coming bundled with an MCE remote controller.
According to Tranquil PC, their system is designed to work together with a Windows Home Server machine for content delivery, but can also be configured with a secondary HDD reaching up to 1TB in capacity.
