2009 will be the year of the robots, as it has often been said. Not only will Terminator make a splashing comeback with “Salvation,” but the sequel to the successful 2007 “Transformers” movie, “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” will also drop. Until that happens, fans have the first official trailer of the latter to enjoy – and see what it is exactly that director Michael Bay has in store for them.

Movie-oriented publications have already been quick to note that, if anything, the trailer for the upcoming “Transformers” does nothing for the uneducated public, that is, for those who either are not familiar with the toys or have not seen the first flick. Perhaps this is how Bay wanted it from the very start, it has been said, to present the film as a series of violent flashes with lots of explosions and only glimpses of whatever it is that is wreaking havoc on Earth.

Be that as it may, the official trailer for “Revenge of the Fallen” is spectacular to say the least. It also comes to prove that, when it comes to Michael Bay, if there is one thing that he can guarantee his audiences, that is that they’ll be thoroughly entertained at his movies. Even if “Transformers” may be a bit lacking in terms of character development, it will certainly manage to do just that – precisely like it was meant to be from the very start.

Speaking of which, Bay has recently spoken to Collider and revealed that he is thinking about turning “Transformers” into a trilogy. If his plans do materialize, he has added, he would first take a year off before starting to make the third film, since working on “Revenge” seriously took its toll on him. Surely, that can’t but come as good news for fans of the genre, or for all those who are just looking for some mind-blowing fun – literally.

“Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” starring Shia LeBeouf, Megan Fox and Josh Duhamel, is, according to Bay, still deep in editing, currently running at 2 hours and some change. By the time it opens in theaters in June 2009, it will certainly be shorter than that. In the meanwhile, below is the first trailer for it. Enjoy.
