First look at highly anticipated '80s film will leave some bitterly disappointed

For months now, we've been hearing about Adam Shankman's “Rock of Ages” and how it will bring back the crazy, the shamelessness and the nostalgia of the '80s. The first trailer has just dropped and, while campy, it's bound to disappoint many.

At a first look, “Rock of Ages” seems like a lot of fun.

Telling the story of two kids who come to Hollywood to make it big and somehow end caught up in the underground rock current, the musical aims to bring back to life a long-gone era.

Not only does it list some of the most iconic tracks on the official score, but it also has a stellar cast – just make sure you watch it until the end for the big reveal of Tom Cruise as the nonchalant rocker Stacee Jaxx.

However, at a second look (especially for a viewer born in the '80s or before), “Rock of Ages” comes across as a diluted, Disneyfied (if you will) version of the events of that era.

Check out the trailer above to see what you make of it. “Rock of Ages” will be out in theaters on June 1, 2012.
