Berbie has updated TrailRunner, its free solution for long distance runners and (now) users of Nike + Apple gear. Version 1.7 (beta) of the software integrates with nikeplus.com, the online community for the Nike+ SportBand, and the Apple Nike+iPod Sport Kit running devices.

Users of Berbie's route planning software can now display their collected workout data within the updated program. TrailRunner 1.7 will match the recordings with routes created in by the user and will analyze their performance using the tools it sports.

TrailRunner is aimed at all kinds of long distance sports. Whether you like running, biking, hiking, inline-skating or skiing, you can now determine how long, or how effective your workouts are and what route you should choose for a given scenario. The software can also calculate a route for your desired distance and export directions onto your iPod. This way, you are sure to get a detailed orientation while keeping the workout going.

Aside the Nike + integration, TrailRunner version 1.7 includes some bug fixes as well. The latest release improves overall stability and display problems, and includes a workaround for a "not yet understood --hasVerticalScroller-- problem," developer Berbie notes. Also, the issue where layout Route and Layout Track sometimes threw error messages when trying to split has been dealt with.

TrailRunner key features include:

Nike + iPod Sport Kit - Import workouts and assign routes with real world distances. Running - Plan workout routes and check your pace at checkpoints. Biking - Import and analyze GPS recordings. Personal Notes - Annotate your tracks with descriptions, colors and the famous iTunes rating stars. NanoMaps - Export route descriptions as NanoMaps for iPods or cellphones. Heart Rate Monitors - Import and manage GPX or Polar HRM workout protocols. Languages - Available in English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Swedish and traditional Chinese. Route Planning - Interactively or automatically, for a given distance and with the highest attractiveness.

TrailRunner is free to download and requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later. The software is a Universal Binary, meaning both PowerPC and Intel Mac users can run it. Weighing in at just 4.66 MB, TrailRunner is available for immediate download HERE.
