Wheelchair-bound Tracy Morgan arrives at NYC hospital months after crash caused by Walmart truck driver

Comedian Tracy Morgan was one of several people injured in a June car crash that was caused by a Walmart employee driving one of the company’s trucks. His attorneys are saying that he might never be able to perform again because of brain injuries sustained, but a new report says there’s a chance he will not walk again unassisted either.

Meanwhile, Walmart is trying to lay some of the blame for the crash on Morgan himself, saying that he would not have been as badly injured as he was if he had just used the safety belt in the back of the limo.

Crash was caused by overworked driver

The accident occurred on the New Jersey Turnpike, as Tracy and his friends were being chauffeured home in the limo from a show. Besides putting several people in the hospital, including the comedian, it also resulted in one death.

The driver has been charged with vehicular manslaughter and severe bodily harm, and Walmart is facing millions of dollars’ worth of damages to the victims and their families. It goes without saying, the crash was a disastrous PR move for the giant, especially when it emerged that the driver had been overworked and should not have, by any means, been driving the truck at that time.

After spending several weeks in hospital and then in a rehabilitation center, Morgan went home to continue his recovery. He also sued Walmart for the crash, asking for an unspecified amount in damages.

In response, the company claimed that his injuries “were caused, in whole or in part, by plaintiffs' failure to properly wear an appropriate available seatbelt restraint device.” An outraged Morgan didn’t fail to respond, blasting Walmart for trying to avoid paying him compensation by placing the blame on him.

New report claims he might never be able to walk without help again

The other day, Morgan arrived at the Mount Sinai hospital in New York in a wheelchair, as the video below can confirm. He was accompanied by his wife and child and seemed in relatively good spirits, all things considered.

However, he refused to say anything on the ongoing court battle, offering TMZ paparazzi the “no comment” line when asked how he was feeling and how his recovery was going. The mere fact that he was being wheeled around by a nurse was answer enough to that question.

But there’s more: “Sources close to Tracy tell TMZ [that] Morgan's injuries stemming from that crash may prevent him from ever walking again without some kind of assistance.”

This comes just hours after Morgan’s attorney told the media that his brain injuries might have been severe enough as to prevent him ever from performing again, which would mean a considerable loss of revenue for him and his family.

In other words, Walmart needs to get ready to pay up, especially if the case goes to trial.
