Singer says age and distance had their say in the affair

Although they never confirmed being a couple in the first place, the relationship between Miley Cyrus’ brother Trace and Disney darling Demi Lovato was special, albeit short-lived. Speaking to People magazine, the 20-year-old singer spills the beans on all the details of the split that occurred just the other day, saying that the age difference and the time spent apart finally took their toll on the romance.

Trace is 20 while Demi is just 16, and this was one of the things that doomed the relationship, Trace explains. The fact that they both traveled so much and hardly had any time left to spend together, doing normal things young couples did also weighed heavily in the balance when it came to deciding to break it off. Still, always the gentleman, Trace does not talk trash about his former girl, saying she is one of the sweetest and kindest girls he has ever met, which, of course, does not exclude the possibility of rekindling the romance after a couple of years.

“Demi is one of my good friends and I definitely became very, very close with her in the past few months, and it’s something I really wanted to make work. But unfortunately, we both have very busy schedules – we’re both on tour right now. I’m always on the other side of the world and so is she, so it just seemed like something that can’t work out at this time.” Trace says of the relationship with Demi. Although the Metro Station singer mentions nothing as regards who broke it off, speculation in the media has it that it was Demi.

Even if she hadn’t, Trace would probably have, judging from his statement to People. “We gave it a shot and that’s all you can do. Every time I hung out with that girl or talked on the phone with her, it was amazing. She’s someone I can totally relate to. But she is a lot younger than me. When someone is that much younger, you’re looking for different things in relationships. Maybe when she’s older and we’ve both matured, we’ll be looking for the same thing and it can work out.” Cyrus concludes by saying.

As we also reported the other day, Demi Lovato is again plagued by rumors of self-harm after a photo of her with what looked like visible scars on her wrist was published in the press. Allegedly, the young Disney star is having serious problems coping with stress and keeping up with her busy schedule. Neither Demi nor a spokesperson has yet addressed these rumors.
