The Creative Assembly and SEGA have not offered too many details about Total War: Warhammer when they first announced the new title in their long-running strategy franchise, but it seems that they are aiming to deliver some pretty big changes as they shift from history to fantasy.

The screenshots offered by the two companies reveal what a battle for the Blackfire Pass will look like, with the Empire and the Orks fighting to control a crucial area that will allow their empires access to new territories.

Total War: Warhammer will be focused on fantasy elements, and The Creative Assembly shows both traditional human units, including knights and wizards, and some monsters that can have a big impact on the combat but are harder to direct.

The engagement shown is part of a quest chain, which will be important in the coming title because they offer various characters access to more powerful relics to use in the future.

The fact that Warhammer fantasy is used means that the studio has the space to explore new abilities of the involved units and to make sure that players are always entertained by the way they can customize their armies.

Wizards and shamans will also play major roles in combat, with a new mechanics designed to allow them to only influence certain areas of the battlefield.

Total War will get unique gameplay mechanics

Because the history is no longer a limitation, The Creative Assembly will offer a more varied experience depending on the faction that players choose to use.

The Empire will have relatively traditional diplomacy, city development and unit creation, but other races, like the Orks and the undead, will work in new ways.

For the Greenskins, gamers will have to keep fervor up in their armies using the Waaagh to keep them on a war footing.

The Creative Assembly has not offered a full look at the factions that will be present in Total War: Warhammer and the kinds of units they will use.

Fans are speculating that Chaos will be included and that a full reveal for them will take place during the coming E3 2015 event.

Total War: Warhammer will be launched in 2016 and will probably only be offered on the PC.

Apparently, SEGA aims to create a trilogy based on the fantasy universe.
