Video game publisher SEGA and developer The Creative Assembly have announced the launch of a new piece of downloadable content for their blockbuster Total War: Shogun 2, the latest installment in the long-running mix between real-time tactics and turn-based strategy, called Sengoku Jidai Unit Pack.

The pack, as the name implies, introduces one new elite unit to each of the Japanese clans seen in the game and allows the player to enjoy some over-the-top abilities and develop new battle tactics around them.

Some of the mentioned troops, like the Date developed Bulletproof Samurai, might be a little outside the limits of history, but they will be enhancing the gameplay for all the factions.

Those who purchase the Sengoku Jidai Unit Pack will be able to immediately use the ten new units in the campaign mode, both single and multiplayer.

They will also be able to use them in the Avatar Conquest mode, even if the opponents do not have the unit pack installed.

The first downloadable pack for Total War: Shogun 2 has introduced a new faction for players to conquer Japan with and since launch the game has also received a number of patches dealing with the biggest player reported issues and also improving various aspects of the experience, including the Artificial Intelligence.

The new Shogun game from The Creative Assembly marked a return to form for the long-running Total War series, which has seen its quality suffer through the release of both Empire and Napoleon.

Shogun 2 has very solid gameplay and the focus on just the islands of Japan allows the developers to create a deeper and more personal experience.

The battles feel more important than in previous games and the computer's ability to reach to player movements and even spring traps for him are welcomed additions to the series.
