The new Wrath of Sparta campaign expansion pack for Total War: Rome II is ready for release and the development team at The Creative Assembly is allowing gamers to take a full look at the core mechanics introduced and the new factions that can be played with a new Let’s Play video that’s almost 40 minutes long.

The aptly named Warrior of Sparta guides the viewers through the footage and provides commentary, and those who stick with the entire video will be able to get a clear look at the new map they will be able to explore and the ways the Peloponnesian War can play out in the strategy title.

The images only show Sparta in action and gamers can choose from a total of four other factions, including Athens, Corinth and Boiotia, which will themselves get a closer look in the near future.

Wrath of Sparta for Total War: Rome II is a complex package and one video is not enough to show everything it has to offer, but the campaign is shaping up to deliver some solid strategic choices and some interesting battles.

The only drawback for some fans of the strategy series from The Creative Assembly is that the variety of units tends to be limited by the period that’s simulated, with a focus on hoplites and the auxiliary troops that support them.

Total War aims to expand to a new historical period

Just as the development team continues to release content for Total War: Rome II, the studio is also getting ready to deliver an entirely new game, Total War: Attila, which is about two months away from being made available on the PC.

The new title asks gamers to choose a faction near the end of the period of the Roman Empire domination and lead it towards victory, which can mean either conquest or simply survival.

The Huns are attacking from the East and the factions that stand in their path towards the heart of Europe will need to choose whether they want to make a stand or move and find new locations to inhabit.

Total War: Attila will introduce some features that many feel make Total War: Rome II a lesser game, like the family tree and an enhanced political systems.

At the same time, The Creative Assembly will use fear, fire, climate change and disease to portray one of the darkest periods in the history of the world.
