The team wants to focus on new gameplay mechanics now

Developer The Creative Assembly says that the player community of Total War: Rome II has been very important after the launch of the game because its feedback has made it much easier to create and launch patches.

Mike Simpson, the creative director working on the entire series, writes on the official forums that, “Without that help we wouldn’t be able to turn around the patches as fast as we have been doing. We’re achieving in weeks what, on previous projects, took months.”

The developer says that his team believes that the biggest technical issues and imbalances have now been eliminated from the game and most players should have no problems when running it.

That gives The Creative Assembly the time and resources to focus on creating and launching new gameplay mechanics and features.

The time between patches might increase but Simpson says that they will still arrive faster than on any other previous Total War title.

Simpson adds, “rest assured that we’re constantly reading the TW forums and a variety of others, and the feedback you’re giving helps us to prioritise the issues we deal with, as well as getting a sense of which features work well, which are not liked, and which features from previous Total War games which weren’t designed into Rome 2 are missed.”

A fourth patch for the game is at the moment out and it seems that The Creative Assembly already has ideas for another three.

When Rome II was launched, many players complained about poor performance, especially when ending turns, and about the fast pace of the tactical battles.

The game now has a bigger focus on strategy and is significantly faster.

The first piece of DLC, which will include more factions to play as, is expected to be launched for Total War: Rome II before the end of the year.
