The development team at The Creative Assembly reveals that the Greek-influenced Egyptians are the final faction to be part of the strategy title Total War: Rome 2, delivering a touch of exoticism to the experience.

The motto of the new faction is “Legacy, independence, power” and they will mix distinctively Hellenistic units with auxiliaries that are drawn from native lands.

During the time of Rome 2, the members of the Ptolemaic dynasty, created by one of the successors to Alexander the Great, were worshiped as Pharaohs and were able to successfully dominate a territory larger than the Greece that they had left for world conquest.

The Creative Assembly states that, “Making great use of spear and pike, their forces are further diversified with skilled swordsmen, scythed chariots, and more exotic units such as African war elephants. Egypt's position on the Mediterranean Sea also requires a substantial navy to protect its colonial and trade interests.”

Ptolemaic Egypt can expand towards Asia and gobble up smaller territories that have also been influenced by Greek culture and military traditions.

At the same time, they can take on Carthage, the biggest trader of the Ancient world, in order to unify Northern Africa and prepare for the almost inevitable rise of the Romans in Southern Europe.

The developers add, “As a Successor Kingdom, Ptolemaic Egypt is progressive and forward-looking. They are skilled statesmen and academics, and their naval prowess is unquestioned. However, as a recently established dynasty on foreign soil, the native Egyptians will take some convincing as to the value of their new rulers.”

The new strategy game aims to deliver a more visceral and realistic portrayal of men at war, complete with battles that mix land and naval action for the first time in the franchise.

Total War: Rome 2 will be delivered only on the PC, during October of this year.
