Not long after it launched its latest batch of high-capacity 2.5-inch hard disk drives, Toshiba seems to be quite eager to keep driving the storage market, in all its forms. In this case, the company has brought out a series of portable hard drives which, through their high storage capacity, will serve well as backup solutions but also as capacious containers for any type of files one might want to transfer between computers or access on the go, provided a host PC is present.

Toshiba's Canvio HDDs are four in number and all make use of the USB 2.0 interface. Two smaller units, measuring 3.1 x 4.7 x 0.53 inches and weighing 5.2oz, have storage spaces of 500GB and 640GB, respectively, whereas the more capacious 750GB and 1TB models are 0.12 inches thicker and weigh 6.3oz. The units bring more benefits than just their size, however, as they come with easy-to-use backup software with improved search capabilities and step-by-step restore functionality.

"If the thought of losing all of your family's important documents, photos, and music makes you shudder, spare yourself the worry by backing up your files," said the product reviews staff from MomCentral. "Toshiba's light and sleek Canvio Portable Hard Drive makes it easy to save your data, whether you're working from home or on-the-go."

"As the survey shows, home computers hold very personal and valuable assets, and yet the majority of people aren't doing enough to help protect that precious data," stated Manuel Camarena, product manager for consumer storage at Toshiba Storage Device Division. "For consumers who know backup is important and want an easy path to peace of mind, the Canvio is a no-brainer. It simply acts like an insurance policy against the loss of crucial data and precious digital memories."

The 500GB, 640GB, 750GB and 1TB Canvio portable HDDs have prices of $120, $140, $160 and $200, respectively, come in multiple colors (Raven Black, Satin Silver, Liquid Blue, Rocket Red and Komodo Green) and are backed by a three-year warranty.
