It seems that Toshiba has finally decided it was high time to release its high-end Windows Mobile-powered mobile phone TG01 in more markets, and now it is set to hold a launch event for the handset in London on Thursday, July 9. The high-end smartphone, as many of you might know, is already available in select markets, having been launched in Japan recently, and now it seems that the UK is next on the list to have it.

The most attractive features of the new device are its powerful Snapdragon platform coming from Qualcomm, which boasts a 1GHz processor, and its impressively large touchscreen display, which is 4.1 inches large and features a WVGA 800 x 480 pixel resolution. At the same time, the mobile phone also includes 3G UMTS/HSPA connectivity, as well as Wi-Fi capabilities and a GPS receiver with assisted GPS functionalities.

The Toshiba TG01 was unveiled to the world about five months ago, and now we finally see the handset hitting the shelves everywhere. Given the powerful processor it comes to the market with, the device should rapidly prove to be one of the best choices out there, especially when it comes to the Windows Mobile area.

Moreover, due to its capabilities, the phone is also eligible for an update to the upcoming Windows Mobile 6.5 platform, expected to become available on the market as soon as this fall, which should make it even more attractive – not to mention that it is only 9.9mm thick, a dimension that hasn't been seen on Windows Mobile devices too often. At the same time, we should also point the fact that Toshiba has packed the TG01 with its own user interface for the operating system.

For the time being, there are no details on the price tag the Toshiba TG01 should feature when available on the market in the UK, yet it is in only a week that this piece of information is expected to be unveiled. In Germany, it seems that O2 has the device listed for 150 Euros on contract, and for 500 Euros SIM-free. Stay tuned to learn more on this.
