While the thrive is making rounds with a smaller price point, a certain other business outlet of Toshiba is seeing some updates, namely the hard disk drive lineup.

Toshiba is one of those IT players that has a stake in a variety of segments instead of just one.

The way it just launched some new HDDs while its Thrive media Tablet is getting mentioned in the press is just the latest proof of this.

Indeed, the company officially launched new additions to a series of hard disk drive units (HDDs).

The line in question is called Canvio and the additions were made to the Canvio 3.0 and Canvio Basics sub-series.

More precisely, three of each were developed, with capacities of 500 GB, 750 GB and 1 TB, respectively. Black, white, silver, red, green, and blue color options are offered.

"Digital consumers need to quickly backup high resolution photographs, important documents, high definition videos and large music files in a seamless storage system. HDDs with cloud-based backup capabilities offer consumers a digital safety net against system failure," said Maciek Brzeski, vice president of HDD retail products, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., Digital Products Division.

"With cloud-based backup, Canvio 3.0 offers consumers a simple and easy backup solution for all types of digital files that need reliable storage."

The Canvio 3.0 drives have support for USB 3.0 and boast the pre-loaded with Windows-based NTI BackupNow EZ software.

Meanwhile, the Canvio Basics 3.0 are the first USB 3.0-ready Canvio Basics drives and are just about $10 cheaper than the others.

The 500 GB, 750 GB and 1 TB Canvio 3.0 sell for $89.99, $109.99 and $139.99 online, while the Canvio 3.0 Basics go for $79.99, $99.99 and $129.99.

This means that, in European currency (according to exchange rates anyhow), the former are priced at 66.65 EUR, 81.47 EUR, 103.69 EUR, while the latter trio cost 59.25 EUR, 74.06 EUR and 96.28 EUR, respectively.
