The portable PC market is expanding at a fast pace, with all the new platforms that have been recently launched and which have enabled system vendors to develop new designs and provide end-users with a new level of customization and new features. On that note, it appears that Toshiba has one more update in its line of portable computer systems, the company having recently announced an updated Qosmio G60 laptop, boasting an 18.4-inch display and mixing a Cell-based SpursEngine HD video co-processor with a Blu-ray optical drive.

Toshiba's new Qosmio G60 laptop (which is also known as the Dynabook MX on the Asian market) has been deigned to provide customers with a choice for a high-performance processor, integrating the Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 CPU with a core speed of 2.53GHz. Additionally, the unit also packs 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive, pretty much what you'd expect from a potential desktop replacement. There's also an NVIDIA GeForce GT 230M graphics processing unit, twin TV tuners and an 18.4-inch HD 1080p panel.

Pretty impressive specifications, for a laptop that clearly wants to become your portable multimedia system. However, Toshiba went all out on this one, choosing to adopt a Cell-based SpursEngine HD video co-processor, which should come in handy when trying to play those HD movies that will be available via the machine's built-in Blu-ray optical disk drive. As you can expect, Toshiba decided to switch to the more appealing Windows 7 operating system, which is due out on October 22, after which the Qosmio G60 is expected to start shipping in Japan.

Unfortunately, there are no details on whether the laptop is to be launched in parts outside the country, or what its price tag will be. Nevertheless, users in Japan will be able to grab one next month for approximately US$2,457.
