Toshiba just announced the expansion of its AMD powered line of mobile computers with two new laptops that are virtually identical from the hardware point of view with the exception of the graphics solutions. While value conscious users may very well choose the ATI Radeon Xpress X1200M integrated graphics chip, the truly high end laptop comes equipped with the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 graphics processing unit that is placed on a discrete graphics card that also comes with its own dedicated video memory.

The launch of the Satellite P205D mobile computer system marks the expansion of the Toshiba laptop lines that are AMD powered. This new computer system comes with a huge 17-inch widescreen display that makes it perfect for the task of a desktop replacement. On the inside, the new Satellite P205D is powered by an advanced mobile central processing unit from Advanced Micro Devices, the Turion 64 X2 Gold Edition TL-64 dual core processor that comes with a running frequency of 2.2GHz, 1MB of L2 cache memory, a 667MHz frontside bus that also supports the 64-bit HyperTransport technology running at 800MHz.

On the random access memory department, the new Toshiba laptop comes equipped with a standard 2048MB of fast DDR2 memory that runs at 667MHz and it can be upgraded to a maximum level of 4096MB too. The new Toshiba product also comes with a spacious 250GB Serial ATA hard disk drive that operates at 4200rpm, while the optical disc drive is DVD SuperMulti compliant as it supports no less than eleven different formats.

As this machine is intended to act as a desktop replacement, the Toshiba Satellite P205D is offering a big 17-inch widescreen display that implements the TruBright technology while supporting a 1440x900 native resolution. This big widescreen display is backed up by the presence of a discrete graphics card based on the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 chip that comes with its own 256MB of video memory, while also being able to dynamically allocate another 256MB from the main system memory thanks to the ATI HyperMemory technology.

The presence of two built in stereo speakers built by the reputed company Harman Kardon, offers a high quality sound, while all wireless connectivity issues are addressed by the presence of the Atheros 802.11a/g/n card that is coupled with a wired networking solution too. Apart from this top configuration Toshiba also has another product offering that is also based on the AMD mobile Turion processor, but that one comes with slightly lower technical specifications. The two new laptops are available now with Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium preinstalled and they come with price tags starting at $850 and $1350, respectively.
