The company made a really odd choice when it added the IPS panel

Toshiba has launched some new Regza-series tablets, one of which is particularly large, well beyond the 10-inch form factor that the world has gotten used to.

The Android 4.0-loaded Regza AT830 slate has an LCD (liquid crystal display) with a diagonal of 13.3 inches, which makes us wonder if it will bump heads with ultrabooks.

After all, a Bluetooth keyboard dock of some kind shouldn't be hard to link to. Well, not if you don't mind paying extra for it anyway.

Speaking of which, we may as well say what gargantuan price the slate bears: 80,000 Yen, which is the same as $1,000 and 780 Euro.

That's right, this thing is really expensive, and while this means that people who afford it can manage a couple of hundred more for a dock, it also means the tablet hardware and software have to seriously impress.

But here is the beginning of our problem: the Regza At830 isn't bound to cause much besides bemusement, and it's all because of the screen.

The native resolution of the IPS panel is 1,600 x 900 pixels. Considering that we've seen 1,920 x 1,080 Full HD slates of ten inches, this seems a very poor pick. Ah well, we'll just wait and see how it goes.

The product's full weight is 1 kilogram (2.20 pounds) and the size is 344 x 211 x 9.9mm (13.54 x 8.30 x 0.38 inches).

Inside, there lie a 1.4 GHz Tegra 3 SoC, 1 GB of RAM, Bluetooth 3.0, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, two cameras (5 mp back, 2 mp front) and support for the Japanese One-Seg TV standard.

Furthermore, the range of I/O options is made up of an SD card slot, micro HDMI, a headset jack and one micro USB port.

Finally, the built-in storage capacity is of 64 GB and provided by eMMC memory. The aforementioned SD card slot can let owners add some more.
