Beside the new line of SSDs for the enterprise segment that reach storage capacities of up to 400GB we've talked about earlier today, the storage solutions' manufacturers has also outed a couple of more “classical” storage products, namely two HDDs that target pretty much the exact segment.

So, while the company's SSDs will prove to be a very good solution for data storage solutions that require very rapid access to data, Toshiba has decided to also come up with an offering targeting specifically those particular segments requiring high reliability and high capacity.

And this brand new offering consists of the new MKx001TRKB and MKx002TSKB series HDDs, two cost-effective nearline models that feature a top storage capacity of 2TB in a traditional 3.5-inch form factor and leading-edge 6Gb/sec SAS3 and 3Gb/sec Serial ATA (SATA)4 interfaces.

Intended for 24 x 7 operation, the MKx001TRKB and MKx002TSKB series drives also include features that are critical to business operations such as Error Correction (ECC), Rotational Vibration (RV) compensation technology for multi-drive systems, and enhanced power condition state technology.

The reason why Toshiba's continues to come up with new and enhanced offerings in the field of hard-disk drives as well is explained by Joseph Unsworth, research director, Gartner, who says that “the total share of the enterprise market that uses SSDs will remain relatively small until at least 2013. Storage suppliers who stand to gain the most from this technology shift will be those who can offer customers a unified product line that includes both SSD and HDD technologies combined with support and services capability.”

Indeed, that last statement really seems to fit Toshiba's business model like a glove.

Anyway, much as in the case of the other enterprise-bound products, Toshiba's not provided us with any information regarding the pricing of these new HDD units, so if you want to find out more on this topic, you'll have to contact the company (or its resellers) directly.
