Toshiba announced the release of two new ultra portable notebooks, the Satellite U300 and Satellite Pro U300 series, that really deserve the term of "mobile" as they both are light and weigh under 2Kg. On a market saturated with quite heavy and ungainly products that are dubbed laptops and notebooks simply because they have the required form and nothing else, Toshiba's new additions are refreshing to say the least.

The Satellite U300 offers a balance of mobility, processing power and value for customers and it comes in a stylish casing that houses an Intel mobile computing platform. This laptop comes in two variants, but the differences between them are minimal, being reduced at processor speed and the like. The Satellite U300 is centered around an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, a T7100 or a T5450, running at 1.8GHz with a frontside bus of 800MHz and a L2 of cache memory of 2MB and respectively 1.66GHz with a FSB of 667MHz and the same L2 cache memory. The chipset used for the two models of the Satellite U300 is the Intel GM965 Express that comes with the wireless networking chip 4965AGN or 3945ABG. The laptops come with either 2GB( 1GB+1GB) or 1GB( 512MB+512MB) of DDR2 system memory running at 667MHz that can be expanded to reach 4096MB. At the storage department, a 200GB or an 120GB hard disk drive assures the data storage needs, together with a DVD super multi drive.

Graphics are served by the Intel dedicated solution GMA X3100 coupled with a 13.3 inch LCD screen that implements Toshiba's proprietary TruBrite technology that reduces glare and makes images sharper and more colorful. All Satellite U300 comes with Microsoft's Windows Vista pre installed, the only difference being the chosen version: Home Preminum or Business. The Satellite Pro U300 offers some more processing power when compared with other models as it comes with the Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 or T5450 processors that can reach a maximum clock speed of 2.0GHz and have a L2 cache memory of 4MB.
