Dean McDermott clarifies Tori Spelling’s vasectomy comment, says they’re not really that broke

A couple of days ago, while promoting a new book, TV star Tori Spelling said that she and her husband were so broke that they couldn’t even afford him getting a vasectomy. Perhaps faced with criticism that the first thing he should consider to get out of the predicament would be getting a job, Dean McDermott is speaking out.

Yes, things have been bad from a financial point of view, Dean says for Us Weekly, but that’s not to say they’re broke-broke: they’re just going through a more difficult time, but he doesn’t believe it will last.

The reaction most of our readers had when reading Tori’s comments was something along the lines of, “well, he should get a job if they’re broke and stop living off his wife’s fame and money.”

One might even imagine that such criticism has also reached Dean’s ears because he’s now saying that he’s working too, so it’s not like he’s relying on his more famous wife to provide for the entire family.

“Right now things are going well. I have several exciting projects in the works. Our show Dean and Tori’s Backyard Bash just re-aired to great ratings, I’ll be the new host of Chopped Canada and I have my first cookbook coming out — The Gourmet Dad, in the spring. Tori’s book (Spelling It Like It Is) just launched this week and things are good,” he tells the celebrity publication.

As for the vasectomy comment, Dean says it wasn’t entirely accurate, even though it was his wife who made it.

“Could we afford a vasectomy? Probably. Was it a tougher time for us financially? Yea. For sure. That’s just the truth of it — it’s the nature of this business,” he says.

“Sometimes things are awesome, sometimes they’re just not. But it’s about how we tackle things as a couple, as a family. And we do a pretty good job of that. Right now we have so many cool things going on — we’re in an uptick,” Dean adds.

Tori Spelling is the daughter of famous and super-rich TV producer Aaron Spelling. Growing up, she was the typical Hollywood child who had everything handed to her on a silver platter, but things changed upon Aaron’s death, when he excluded her from his will.

The vasectomy comment was made in reference to how Tori had to readjust to a life that couldn’t include the luxury of buying very expensive handbags and shoes.
