Although Tori Spelling has been keeping the headlines recently mostly for her weight loss, the actress insists she’s more than that. She is also a successful television personality, an author and, what’s more important, a good mother to her two children, as she makes it clear in an interview with Hannity, as cited by Fox News.

She has always been in the spotlight, but she never forgot to stay true to herself – that is the secret of Tori Spelling, as per her own words. In the interview, the star, who shot to fame with her dad’s famous show “Beverly Hills 90210,” says she had everything handed to her on a silver platter, which might have made it easier for her to toss it away, as other stars did in the past. Yet it was precisely this that kept her going strong, fighting temptation and never forgetting her ultimate goal of becoming an actress.

“I don’t know. And people always say to me – I started ‘90210’ when I was 16. And I had every opportunity – money, fame, you know – to go down the wrong path. And people say, ‘Why didn't it happen to you? You know, why didn’t you go the wrong way?’ And I simply say, ‘Because I had my eye on the prize.’ I was given a very fortunate opportunity, and I wasn’t going to screw it up. I wanted to be an actor.” Tori says when asked about the longevity of her career in the spotlight.

However, the media can always bring one down just as easily as it gets one up, Spelling adds. Because of the many reports that were circulating false rumors about her and her personal life, Tori decided she and husband Dean McDermott should put their lives on public display on their own terms. This way, the “Tori and Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood” reality show came to be, now at its fourth season on the Oxygen Network.

Of course, that is not to say they sacrificed privacy for the sake of money or popularity, as Tori points out. On the contrary, it was something they decided to do because they wanted to, as it was the only way they could protect their personal lives from the prying eye of the media.

“That [being in the limelight] is something I can contain and I can control. And I actually like doing it that way, rather than, you know, people taking pictures as we leave the house. At least when it’s my house, it’s our cameras. It’s our crew. You know, it’s literally not what people think. It’s not cameras 24 hours a day. It’s a small crew.” the actress explains.
