“This is as real as it gets,” she defends True Tori

Tori Spelling hasn’t been seen in public, on TV, in quite some time (not including her weekly episodes of True Tori, season 2). Fans of this reality series know that she spent a few weeks hospitalized, which then led to rumors that her marriage to Dean McDermott, already frail, was about to end.

None of that is true, but Tori does have something in her life that breaks her heart whenever she mentions it: her bad relationship with her mother Candy Spelling.

The first video embedded below is of her appearance on The Today Show, the Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb segment. The second one is a new trailer for next week’s episode of True Tori. Both are with Candy.

Tori Spelling discusses her show, turns on the waterworks

For her first interview since she was released from the hospital, Tori tries to explain her decision to allow cameras again in her house, to document the nonstop fights she has with her husband, or whatever else is going on in their life.

At the same time, she goes to great lengths to convince the world that what they see on camera is her reality, that it hasn’t been scripted or doctored in any way. “This is as real as it gets,” she says, adding that discussing all her problems in front of a camera crew is “like therapy” for her, “cathartic.”

If you’re not convinced, Tori also turns on the waterworks, this time when she speaks about her mother, with whom she has a famously troubled relationship. Asked if Candy visited her in the hospital when she was sick, she says that no, she didn’t – and this made her realize that her mom would never be there for her.

On a lighter topic, Tori admits that she might do another season of True Tori even if Dean opts out of it (he’s already said he won’t be back, but a lot can change between seasons, including people’s minds), because she likes doing it, and explains that her new grey extensions stand for “something clean and fresh.”

More Candy drama on the next episode of the show

The second video embedded in this article is a new preview from True Tori, shot at Hattie’s 3rd birthday party, which Tori held in her backyard. She invited Dean’s ex-wife Mary Jo Eustace, but she also invited her estranged mother, Candy.

Right before Candy arrived at the house, but only after she greeted Mary Jo, Tori got another one of her migraines and went upstairs. Candy arrived with her new BFF Tatum O’Neal, daughter of the actor Ryan O’Neal and the youngest person to get a competitive Oscar.

They both seemed unhappy with being there, particularly Candy, who barely addressed Dean, on whom all hosting duties fell and Tori bailed. Tatum even intervened to point to him that it would look good “for the show” if Tori came down to greet her mother.

So yes, expect more Candy drama from the next episode of True Tori.
