And, as one, she will soon fall off the map

Critics have long embraced Lady Gaga as one of the hottest musical presences of the moment, a promising artist whose staying power is undeniable, they say. Fans too are convinced that Gaga has what it takes to be as big as Madonna in the next decade, but there is one fellow artist who doesn’t feel the same. Tori Amos, for one, believes Gaga is just a “meteor” in music right now, as The Sun can confirm.

Apparently, Amos has spoken recently to the British tabloid and has revealed that, while she does consider Gaga a welcome distraction, she does not value her artistry all that much. At the end of the day, the veteran singer believes, what Gaga does couldn’t possibly stand the test of time because her main focus right now is on making her music and her act entertaining. As all entertaining things, her career is not bound to last either and she will probably slip off the map in a matter of a couple of years, Amos believes.

“She’s what I call a meteor – singers who entertain people for a while. Hey, there’s nothing wrong with that.” Amos reportedly tells The Sun without trying to insult Gaga and her music. “But then there are people like Neil Young who show up at Glastonbury 40 years into their career. And that’s a very different kind of artist. The question is, will Lady Gaga be playing alongside Neil Young at Glastonbury in 20 years’ time? She wants to entertain people. Right now, half the world is depressed and they need to be entertained. So her timing’s perfect.” Tori further explains.

While she might be considered nothing but a poser and a chameleon that changes color to fit the environment – in her case, a performer who gives audiences exactly what they want –, Gaga herself thinks she has managed to elevate her act to the status of art. Yes, the singer agreed in a recent interview with Out magazine, she did fold herself to fit what was being asked of her, but she did so in such a manner that her music didn't lose the personal touch it had and her personality.

“I am completely 100,000% devoted to a life of glamour. There’s an art to fame. Even in the most humiliating and defaming moment of your life, you’re still ready for the camera. What I want to deliver, as a message about fame, is that anyone can have it. My fame lives in my friendships, in my convictions about the power of art and love – you could have 500 pairs of shoes that cost 10 cents and still be famous. This isn’t the Lady Gaga newscast. Nobody gives a [expletive] what is really going on – everyone wants me to tell them a story. Art is a lie, and every day I kill to make it true.” Lady Gaga was saying a while back about her music and her art.
