Runic Games has just confirmed that Torchlight 2 has reached the 2 million units sold milestone in just 10 months, proving that the low-priced dungeon crawling RPG can attract millions of gamers from around the world.

Torchlight 1 impressed through its great gameplay and through the fact that it reminded many RPG fans of the old Diablo titles.

Last year, after the appearance of Diablo 3, developer Runic Games released Torchlight 2 in September at a very low price while offering all sorts of features, from offline support to mod tools and much more.

Now, after almost 10 months since that initial debut, Runic Games has confirmed that over 2 million units have been sold worldwide.

"We are overwhelmed by the reception for Torchlight II. To hit this milestone is a testament not only to our dedicated development team, but also to the greatest, most positive gaming community I've ever seen," Runic Games CEO Max Schaefer revealed in a statement, via Joystiq.

Torchlight 2's performance is all the more impressive as the original game managed to sell 1 million copies in two years.

"I'd just like to say a big thank you to all the players who offered their suggestions on what we could improve, and who stuck with us and supported us during development. It wouldn't have been possible without you, and we're humbled and grateful at your response," Runic Games President Travis Baldree added.

Torchlight 2 impressed through many great features and quickly captured the attention of many RPG fans who were disappointed with Blizzard's Diablo 3 for one reason or another.

What's more, the recent Steam Summer Getaway Sale of 2013 saw Torchlight 2 receive a massive 75% sale, which no doubt helped boost sales over the 2 million milestone.

As of yet, Runic Games hasn't confirmed its next project, so who knows if a Torchlight 3 might appear soon enough.
