Steape offers solutions for travellers and mobile phone users who find themselves in situations that require knowing a foreign language. It actually works like a dictionary that, besides the classic version, also offers the correct pronunciation.

The program works quite easy and needs little effort from the user. Steape is capable of translating 272 language combinations of 17 basic languages. From the most frequently used languages, such as English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese, down to the ones met on a lower basis, Steape supports them all. It is just like having an entire library of small traveling dictionaries stored in your pocket, easy to carry anywhere and use in any situation.

Marc van Bommel, CEO of Steape explains the uses of such an application: "Have you ever been in a situation where no-one understands a word you're saying? Frustrating, isn't it? The most important aspect of our translation products is that they offer you exactly the words you need, at precisely the moment you need them. Also, the fun-factor of letting your mobile talk for you means that you can quickly break the ice and enjoy a conversation."

For making sure that the pronunciation is correct, the recordings feature voices of native speakers that are played back. 500 traveller-related words are stored in each of the 17 languages. For faster and easier access, they are stored in different categories, according to the situations in which you might need to use them. These include Chat basics, Money, Shopping, Flirting & Dating, Eating & Drinking, as well as Help & Health.

The program runs on almost 140 mobile phone types, but Steape is working on increasing this number. It can be currently downloaded for the price of GBP 4.00 from the Steape website, but is also available in a free version that provides information concerning only numbers, directions, the spoken alphabet and time.
