It's been decades since Maverick convinced a whole generation of boys that the American army was a good career choice. The sequel to “Top Gun” has been in the works for almost as long, but now it's finally getting made. The only problem: a viable script.

“Top Gun 2” was rumored to be starting production earlier this year but things haven't moved in the right direction. The Hollywood Reporter claims that things are finally moving again, as Justin Marks, the man behind “The Jungle Book” script, has been attached to the project and received the difficult task of turning the action movie around.

Marks took the job over from Peter Craig, who also worked on the thriller “The Town” with Ben Affleck. The movie's plot was said to pit human pilots against drones. It was Tony Scott's idea, Tony being the director of the original film.

Scott and producer Jerry Bruckheimer had worked on the script until Scott committed suicide in August 2012 and then all things came to a complete standstill.

Actor Tom Cruise is expected to make a return in the role of Maverick in the film. He is currently working on the latest film in the “Mission Impossible” series, the fifth one so far.
